About the PHJA

The Pensacola Hunter Jumper Association (PHJA) was founded in 1973 by several Pensacola families wanting a venue to promote equestrian sports in the local area. The club was formed to hold horse shows and sponsor other equine activities that would benefit the membership. From its very humble beginnings of holding horse shows in ball fields and jumping over hay bales and barrels, the association has grown to a membership of over 150 members including junior riders and families.

The club now holds 4 to 5 schooling horse shows a year at the Escambia County Equestrian Center, with each show spanning two days. Members and non-members are invited to participate in our shows which are free to spectators. With as many as 200 entries per show, PHJA offers a full compliment of hunter and equitation divisions from the lead line division to open hunter divisions, as well as several jumper classes. Our show year is from January through December and Members are eligible for end of year awards recognizing the horse and/or rider who accumulate the most points in a division throughout the year.

The club is a not-for-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors made up of volunteers who donate their time and effort to organize and hold horse shows and other events.

The goal of Pensacola Hunter Jumper Association is to promote the equestrian sport through horse shows and other equine activities that benefit the exhibitors, horses, sponsors, spectators and the club.
